The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has just released its outlook for the 2021 Hurricane Season. On the heels of last year’s record-breaking season, NOAA is once again forecasting for an active and above-average season! While this does not necessarily translate into increased odds for a landfilling system in the US, it does mean that all coastal areas will once again need to be on guard! June marks the start of Hurricane Season for the Atlantic Basin. Only about 5% of systems over the last ~170 years have formed in June. June systems tend to be weak, granted we can see a stronger system form every now and then. These systems tend to form close to the US and can bring heavy rain impacts to affected areas. While we are not watching any area in particular right now, it is important to remember that the tropics are beginning to wake up!
