Election Day Forecast: Hot & Humid, Less Active

Brought to you by Cedar Point Federal Credit Union

Yesterday was our first day in this developing heat wave, with temperatures maxing out at 92° at Pax River. We saw heat indices as high as 102°, thanks to the high humidity! Today will look to follow that up with another hot and humid afternoon on tap. But, this is just the start.

William Richmond Inc. estimated rainfall totals from 5pm Mon. – 5am Tue.

After the high heat, last night also featured some evening storms that dropped a decent amount of rain across some of our southern zones. Areas in central St. Mary’s County and southern Calvert County saw as much as 1-2″+ of rain between 7-10pm as a couple of rounds of thunderstorms pushed through!

After the rain last night we are off to a humid start! Dewpoints are already in the 70s this morning, which is making it feel quite muggy. We will keep that high humidity level around as temperatures look to warm back into the 90s this afternoon! Heat Indices will get back to near 100°, as well.

You want to make sure that you are taking this upcoming heat wave seriously. Temperatures are likely to be in the middle to upper 90s throughout the week, with the humidity remaining oppressive. You want to ensure that you are drinking plenty of water, trying to stay cool, and be mindful of your activity outside as well as the activity of vulnerable groups and your pets.

Hi-Resolution Futurecast simulated radar

Futurecast shows that the chance of showers and storms will be much lower today than it was yesterday, but it will not be zero. The best chance of a pop-up shower or storm this evening will be across central VA and the lower Northern Neck. However, we may see a stray shower try to work its way northward.

I would peg rain chances this evening around 20%. Nothing to cancel any evening plans over! However, make sure you stay cool and weather aware, just in case.

Today is also Primary Election Day across the state of Maryland! There are many high-profile races on the ballot today. If you have not already voted, today will be your last day to do so, and voting will happen in person. Polling places open up at 7am, and will remain open through 8pm. If you have questions about where your place is, check out the Maryland Department of Election interactive tool to help!
