Is There The Potential of a Winter Storm Next Week?

Brought to you by Cedar Point Federal Credit Union

There has been a lot of chatter regarding the potential for snow. And yes, snow is certainly possible across the Mid-Atlantic Wednesday PM – Thursday. However, a big storm is far from a promise. It will all come down the track of the system, which will determine impacts & totals.

The European and American models show the two generalized scenarios. The European model shows option A with a storm that can come further north and is much stronger. This would, indeed, allow for widespread heavy snow with some mixing SE of I-95. This would cause high impacts.

The American model shows the potential where the storm is suppressed to the south. This would actually be the case if the cold air to the north is too strong, not allowing it to come north. With this, the region would be on the northern fringe of a smaller event than Option A.

It is too early to say what will happen and what you can expect. It is safe to say that snow is a real possibility, if not a likelihood, for midweek. However, the degree of snow and impacts are still uncertain given the unknowns with the eventual track.
