Yesterday turned out to be a great day across the region! Many spots maxed out in the upper 60s yesterday, and we will look to repeat things again today. Granted, temperatures will be a couple of degrees cooler today, thanks in part to easterly winds.
We are off to a somewhat cool start this morning, and we should see temperatures steadily rise throughout the morning. We will see a noticeable increase in cloud cover today, limiting the amount of sunshine we see. There is also a non-zero chance that we see an isolated shower this afternoon as well.
We will see the chance of rain increase substantially tomorrow as a potent area of low-pressure tracks eastward from the Plains. Rain likely arrives in our region by tomorrow morning and likely lingers into late week. In the meantime, this low-pressure is also spanning a dangerous severe weather outbreak.
The southern severe weather outbreak kicked off yesterday with multiple tornadoes racing through southern and eastern Texas. KXAN News, based out of Austin, caught the moment one of those tornadoes crossed I-35 during a busy rush hour. So far, there are over 96 reports and counting of severe weather from yesterday.
The severe weather threat today will move and focus on Lousiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. For a second straight day, an uncommon Level 4 “Significant Risk” of severe weather has been issued ahead of what is likely to be another active day. Damaging winds up to 80mph are possible, along with strong, long-track tornadoes, 1-2″+ sized hail, and the potential flooding.
Any interests in this region should take this threat seriously. Thankfully, this threat should stay south of our region.
