Thursday’s Forecast: Rain With a Late Surge of Warmth

Brought to you by Row House

Today will be the peak of our week-long warm up! High temperatures today are likely to get into the upper 50s before the cold front swings through tomorrow. We already have rain moving through the region this morning. We will keep that chance of rain throughout the day.

Now, today’s temperature chart does not look like it typically does. High temperatures today will be recorded late today, just before midnight. This will happen as the southerly flow will intensify ahead of the cold front. As a result, we will see temperatures warm throughout the day.

Our Chesapeake’s Bounty Futurecast shows the timeline of the rain today. We will see the initial slug of moisture from the south move through the region this morning and into midday. We may see the rain let up some this evening before another round of rain moves around, or just after, midnight.

The cold front will move through the region Friday morning and will bring a stark temperature drop. By this time tomorrow, there will likely be 30s in Northern MD while Southern MD is still sitting in the upper 50s. This will be one powerful front!

The incoming injection of cold air will transition some northern zones, near the MD/PA state line, over to a period of freezing rain and sleet tomorrow morning. Zones northwest of DC will be in a position to see that cold air slide in while there is still precipitation around. It looks like the precip will be moving out tomorrow afternoon as the cold air moves into Southern MD, limiting the icing concern.
