We are off to a cold start this morning, with some surprise snow across the region! We have seen a few snow showers move through early this morning, which is leftover from yesterday’s system. These snow showers are moving southeastward through the southern parts of our region.
These snow showers have been able to put down a quick coating to half-inch of snow across parts of the area. As a result, several of our local school districts are operating under 2 hour delayed openings:
- Calvert (MD)
- Charles (MD)
- Lancaster (VA)
- St. Mary’s (MD)
The following school systems are now closed for today:
- Spotsylvania (VA)- Remote learning for students; Code 2 for employees
- King George (VA)- Closed for students; Code 1 for employees
- Fredericksburg City (VA)- Closed for students; Code Red
- Stafford (VA)- Asynchronous instruction for students; Telework for staff
- Westmoreland (VA)- Remote learning for students; Buildings will be closed
- Northumberland (VA)- Remote learning for students; Staff work from home; Buildings closed.
As we move through the rest of today, we will see clear conditions, but the cold will stick around. The snow showers should be out of here by 7-9am, with sunshine returning by the afternoon. However, temperatures will only max out in the middle 30s, with wind gusts up to 20mph. Slick spots may remain on area roadways throughout the morning and afternoon.
