Monday’s Forecast: Cool, Rainy, and Windy

Brought to you by Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty

We have a rather subpar start to the week on tap across the Mid-Atlantic for today. Many spots will look to only max out in the lower to middle 50s this afternoon, which is 12-18° below average for this afternoon. Additionally, we will have bands of rain and gusty winds to contend with as well.

We are off to a cool start this morning with temperatures in the 30s and 40s regionwide. Temperatures will not budge too much throughout the day. What we will notice is the increase in coverage in the rain as we head towards lunchtime. Rain will likely continue throughout the day with winds picking up this evening.

Our Chesapeake’s Bounty Futurecast does a great job at timing out today’s rain threat. It shows how the rain will become widespread by midday with bands of heavy rain working through the region this afternoon and evening. The rain will not look to clear until late tonight, likely after midnight.

Many spots in our region could see as much as 1-2″ of rain from this coastal system before we clear out tonight. The heaviest rains are likely to be centered to the east of I-95. Given our recent dry spell, flooding is not a huge concern. However, some localized ponding on area roadways will be possible this evening. Stay aware!

Wind will also become an issue as we head throughout today. We will notice winds pick up this evening as the center of the coastal system passes by the region. Winds could gust as high as 30-40mph this evening! The highest wind gusts are likely to be found on the Delmarva.

All-in-all, we have a rather ugly day on tap across the region. Expect rain to continue throughout the day with increasing intensity this evening. Temperatures will remain cool with winds increasing this evening. Severe weather is not a threat today, but localized ponding will be a risk!
