Wednesday’s Forecast: Rain Likely w/ Gusty Winds

Brought to you by Cedar Point Federal Credit Union

We are seeing rain chances increase across the region this morning as our wet pattern begins in full swing! Scattered showers have begun to move through the region this morning, offering some needed water. The rain chances will remain quite elevated throughout the day.

Temperatures are likely to be 12-17° below average today thanks to the increased cloud cover, rain showers, and gusty winds. Today is the kickoff to Astronomical Summer, but it will not feel like it! Warmer conditions will be found to the north where the clouds and rain will hold off until later this afternoon.

Hi-Resolution Futurecast loop

Futurecast is doing a great job at depicting today’s rain threat. We are going to see waves of rain move onshore as an area of low pressure slowly lifts northward. This will put Southern MD and the Eastern Shore in the firing line of rain for much of today. Rain showers will eventually spread across much of the Mid-Atlantic by this evening. Thankfully, we should not see overly heavy rain today.

Our models show the potential for some communities in our area to see upwards of an inch of rain today! The highest amounts will, indeed, be found in southern zones. Half-an-inch to an inch of rain looks likely for most spots. Given our recent dry stretch, flash flooding is not likely.

With the onshore flow of today’s rain, we will see increased easterly winds. We could see gusts upward of 30-40mph at times, especially south of DC. The onshore flow will create some issues for coastal communities during times of high tide. Coastal flooding alerts are in effect through tomorrow as a result.
