Tuesday’s Forecast: Another Rain Chance

Brought to you by Calvert Title Company

Yesterday’s severe threat was largely a bust across the Mid-Atlantic. This was thanks to added midday cloud cover and the delayed passage of the cold front. However, we did see some rainfall overnight with areas in St. Mary’s County seeing up to a quarter of an inch of rain.

Today offers another rain chance across the region, but the overall severe threat will be much lower. The 80% chance of rain will come as temperatures max out in the lower to middle 80s. Humidity levels will also be noticeably high as well, so look to get any outdoor exercise done in the morning!

Hi-Resolution Futurecast

Futurecast shows that we will likely see showers and downpours bubble up to our west after lunchtime. Then, as a weak frontal boundary passes overhead, we see those downpours work their way eastward. We will be dodge raindrops between 3-9PM.

As things stand right now, the Storm Prediction Center is not expecting much of a severe threat out of these, and I largely agree. Our region is under a Level 1 “Marginal Risk” of severe weather which communicate a low, but not zero, threat of 1 or 2 severe storms. The threats with any storm today would be heavy rain and gusty winds.

Heavy rain really will be the focus this afternoon with the storms that bubble up. Not everyone will see the rain today as storms will be more scattered than widespread. But the storms we see bubble up could drop up to half an inch to an inch of rain! The highest rain chances will be focused along and east of I-95.

While today will not be a severe weather day, you will want to stay weather aware as these showers and downpours work through. Be ready to move any outdoor plans or activities in doors this afternoon and evening.
