The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a TORNADO WATCH for Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, King George, Prince Geroge’s, and St. Mary’s Counties, as well as for much of the northern Mid-Atlantic. This watch is in effect until 8PM Wednesday.

Primary threats this evening are:

  • A few tornadoes possible
  • Isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

SUMMARY: Thunderstorms are expected to increase in intensity across a portion of the Middle Atlantic and Northeast U.S. this afternoon in association with the remnants of tropical cyclone Fred. Some of the showers and thunderstorms will become capable of producing a few tornadoes and isolated damaging wind.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Remember, a Tornado WATCH just means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms to develop, nothing is occurring right now.  People in the watch area should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings if severe weather or tornadoes are imminent.

It will be important to stay with JB Weather for the latest information on Fred and the impacts here in Southern Maryland this afternoon.
