The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for the Mid-Atlantic, including Anne Arundel (MD), Calvert (MD), Charles (MD), King George (VA), Prince Georges (MD), St. Mary’s (MD), and Westmoreland (VA) Counties.
This Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 9PM Monday. The primary threats this afternoon are:
- Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
- Scattered large hail events up to 2″ in diameter possible
- Isolated, weak, spin-up tornado possible
SUMMARY: A couple supercells may develop across portions of northeast to central Virginia and spread east towards the Maryland/Delaware/southern New Jersey coast this evening.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Remember, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. People in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
