The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for the Mid-Atlantic, including:
- Anne Arundel (MD)
- Charles (MD)
- Prince George’s (MD)
- Westmoreland (VA)
- Calvert (MD)
- King George (VA)
- St. Mary’s (MD)
This watch is in effect until 9PM Thursday. Primary threats this evening are:
- Damaging wind gusts up to 65mph are likely
- Hail up to 1″ is possible
SUMMARY: Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop and further increase, initially near/just east of the mountains through mid/late afternoon. These storms will spread east-southeastward and eventually reach near-coastal areas by evening. Damaging winds are likely to be the most common hazard with some hail possible as well.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Remember, a Severe Thunderstorm WATCH just means that conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. People in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
