Freeze Warning for Southern Maryland: Lows In The 30s Tonight

A much colder air mass will settle in tonight as northwesterly winds drive temperatures sharply downward across the region. Many locations will fall below freezing by early Tuesday morning, but the most significant concern is focused on areas where the growing season is still active. Because of this, a Freeze Warning has been issued for Calvert and St. Mary’s Counties in Southern Maryland, as well as King George and Westmoreland Counties in Virginia. These areas are expected to dip into the upper 20s to around 31°, cold enough to damage or kill sensitive vegetation.

Most other locations outside the warned zone have already seen their growing season end, but it will still be a cold night region-wide. Skies will remain partly cloudy, and a few spotty flurries may drift through as colder air interacts with lingering moisture. Impacts remain low overall, but residents in the warned counties should take steps to protect plants or outdoor items that may be vulnerable to freezing temperatures.
