Friday’s Forecast: Excessive Heat w/ Iso’d PM Storms

Brought to you by Cedar Point Federal Credit Union

Yesterday was a hot one with the temperature at Pax River NAS maxing out at 97°! The heat index yesterday was also quite high, getting up to 109°. Unfortunately, the heat will look to ramp up today across the region. Temperatures are expected to get back into the upper 90s to near 100°!

We are already off to a humid start this morning! The thick summertime humidity will ramp up as temperatures begin to warm this morning. Our heat indices are likely to be well into the 90s by mid-morning, and cracking into the 100s by lunchtime. Heat indices are likely to become extremely dangerous this afternoon.

As a result of the dangerous heat, an Excessive Heat Warning has been issued along and east of I-95 for this afternoon. The Bay will help to enhance humidity levels, allowing for heat indices to reach above 110° for many communities. This sort of heat is quite uncommon for the Mid-Atlantic.

Hi-Resolution Futurecast

The heat and humidity will also allow for copious amounts of storm energy to develop overhead this afternoon and evening. Futurecast suggests that isolated storms are possible by late-afternoon. Granted, they are not likely to be widespread thanks to a lack of any impending frontal boundary.

Even though the storm chance is not widespread today, the Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the region under a Level 1 “Marginal Risk” of severe weather for today. This just denotes that while the rain chance is low today, any storm that does get going could turn severe quite quickly. You will want to stay weather aware this evening, just in case.

Stay safe today and take the Excessive Heat Warning seriously! You can stay with JB Weather for the latest information on Southern Maryland weather. You can always access my forecasts and updates here on the website, on Facebook, on Twitter, on Instagram, and on YouTube.
