Friday’s Forecast: One Last Mild Day

Brought to you by Row House

Today will look to be our last mild day before the Winter chill returns to the region tomorrow. Highs today will look to top out around average for many spots, with areas south of Washington DC being the warmest. Locally, temperatures are likely to get into the middle to upper 40s under mainly clear skies.

While temperatures will have a gradual climb this morning and afternoon, they will fall fast this evening. Temps will look to get down into the 20s by late tonight! We will also have gusty northerly winds to contend with across the region, which is will help deliver the cold air. It is possible that we could see northerly gusts up to 30mph throughout the day. You will notice this the most this evening as the temperatures begin to fall and the winds remain elevated.

Overnight, a Winter Storm Watch was issued for areas well west of I-95 for our impending weekend storm. The blue shaded zones on the map below show where that Watch is in effect for. Those will be the zones that are the most likely to see impactful snow totals Sunday night into Monday morning. High impacts will be felt outside of this region, but they will largely come from ice, rain, and wind. I would expect additional alerts to get issued as we get closer to the event.

I will have my full First Call forecast for this storm published later today. I will be going over snow, ice, and rain totals, wind gusts, and impacts to expect. I will have information for both the Mid-Atlantic as a whole and locally for Southern MD. In the meantime, check out the Preliminary outlook that I published yesterday afternoon for a current look at how things stand.
