We’re starting the day bitterly cold, with many areas waking up to temperatures in the teens and wind chills in the single digits, making for a rough start to the morning.

Despite some sunshine, today stays cold from start to finish. Afternoon temperatures will struggle to reach freezing, with many locations topping out in the upper 20s to near 30°. In addition, scattered snow showers or flurries are possible north of the Mason–Dixon Line, driven by lingering northwest flow. Any snow activity will be brief and light, but could still cause localized slick spots.

Northwest winds are gusty this morning, with gusts of 20–25 mph common, adding to the cold feel early in the day. Winds will gradually ease this afternoon, but the combination of lingering breeze and cold air will keep conditions feeling raw through the evening hours.

Numerous school delays are in effect this morning due to a combination of residual black ice, drifting snow in spots, and dangerously cold temperatures. With limited melting expected today, untreated roads, sidewalks, and shaded areas may remain slick through the morning commute. Continued caution is advised, especially early today.
