Monday’s Forecast: Dry, but Cool and Windy

Brought to you by Chesapeake Orthodontics

After a wet weekend, we have a dry day on tap that featured 1-2″ of rain falling across the region. Granted, the cool temperatures from this weekend will be sticking around! Many communities will likely only max out in the lower to middle 60s, which is a good 10-15° below average for this time of year!

We are off to a cool start this morning, with many spots bottoming out in the upper 30s to lower 40s overnight. Despite the mainly clear skies, temperatures will take a while to rebound this morning. We will see cloud cover increase late this evening as winds pick up.

This weekend’s system continues to sit just offshore. While it’s far enough offshore not to bring rain chances, it is close enough to enhance northeasterly, onshore winds. This easterly wind is what will be responsible for our cooler temps. Winds will likely gust upwards of 20-30mph across our region. The further east you head, the gustier the winds.

This onshore wind will also lead to increased water levels at times of high tide. A Coastal Flood WARNING remains in effect for St. Mary’s until Tuesday morning, which could get extended. The forecast point on St. George’s Island shows that the Potomac River is expected to peak out at 3.5 feet at times of high tide over the next few days.

At 3.5 feet, water covers roads on Saint George Island, is in yards, and approaches structures. To the east, inundation is occurring at multiple marinas off St. Mary`s River, Smith Creek, and Jutland Creek.

Coastal flooding will also be an issue, but nearly as significant, further north in Calvert and Anne Arundel Counties for the next few days as well.

We will keep the breezy and cool conditions around for a couple of more days before we see temperatures finally return to average late this week. However, the warmer temperatures will also come with the chance of rain!
