The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH (shown in yellow) is in effect for Calvert, Charles, King George, Prince George’s, and St. Mary’s until 9PM Thursday. A TORNADO WATCH (shown in red) is in effect until 9PM Thursday for Anne Arundel County.
Primary threats this evening are:
- Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph lieky
- Isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible
- An isolated weak tornado or two
SUMMARY: Thunderstorms are expected to develop soon along the mountains of western Virginia and spread eastward across the watch area. The strongest cells will be capable of damaging wind gusts and hail.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: A Severe Thunderstorm WATCH means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
