Sunday’s Forecast: Seasonal with PM Storm Chance

Brought to you by the Southern Maryland Spring Fling

May looks to get started off on an active note across the area! First, though, we should have seasonal temperatures this afternoon, with many spots maxing out in the upper 60s to lower 70s. However widespread rain and potentially even some storms look likely as we approach sunset this evening due to a warm front working through our area.

We are getting off to a mild start this morning with temperatures in the 50s. We will see temperatures gradually rise throughout the morning with building cloud cover. Our southerly wind may bring in a touch of humidity for this afternoon we see rain move in this evening.

Chesapeake’s Bounty Futurecast simulated radar

Our Chesapeake’s Bounty Futurecast shows that we will see a zone of rain work eastward into our region by about 5-7pm. The initial push of rain may bring with it a couple of embedded thunderstorms before tapering off to just rain after sunset. We should see the rain move out around midnight.

As of this morning, the Storm Prediction Center has not outlined our region as being under an organized severe weather threat. The highest severe weather chances exist well to our west, across the mountains, and to our south, in far southern VA. With that said, lightning, heavy rain, and locally gusty winds will be possible with any thunderstorm that does form.

I would suggest pushing any outdoor activities to happen before 5pm. Anytime between 5pm-12am looks to be fair game for rain. Stay weather aware this evening! Behind the rain, we see much warmer air work into the region to kick off the workweek.
