Thursday’s Forecast: AM Snow with PM Cold

Brought to you by Chesapeake Orthodontics

After temperatures got into the 50s yesterday, we have much more January-esk forecast for your Thursday. An incoming cold front is moving in, and will usher in much cooler temperatures. Temps will actually fall throughout the day, with afternoon temperatures in the 30s.

We do see rain already showing up on William Richmond Inc. Radar this morning. As colder temperatures work into the region throughout the morning, we will see that transition to zone to some snow continue to drift further southward.

The one thing I am noticing this morning is that our Chesapeake’s Bounty Futurecast is really slowing down the timing of our front. It does not even bring rain into the region until after sunrise, with a changeover to snow not occurring until late morning. Futurecast then shows a couple of hours of snow early this afternoon, before drifting to our south by mid-to-late afternoon. I fear that this may be too slow, but this could definitely happen. I do still think that we’re only talking up to an inch of slushy accumulation locally, with up to 2″ north of Waldorf and Dunkirk.

With Futurecast in mind, we will adjust the forecast accordingly, shifting the rain/snow mix potential back by a couple of hours. Temperatures will still fall throughout the day regardless. Slick spots on area roads are certainly possible this afternoon, so keep that in mind. Temperatures free fall into the 20s tonight with clearing skies, which will help cause a more widespread refreeze for Saturday morning. Winds will gust up to 25-30mph overnight too, which will make it feel like we’re in the teens and single digits.

The one thing I am noticing this morning is that our
