After a nice reprieve from the typical late-June heat and humidity, our streak of comfortable weather looks to have come to an end. Our summertime pattern will return today as temps this afternoon will look to return to our seasonal averages in the upper 80s and lower 90s.
We are off to a humid start already this morning with dewpoints in the upper 60s and temperatures in the 70s. The already high dewpoints will stick around throughout the day as temperatures quickly work into the 80s.
We should have mostly clear skies today, but I would not totally rule out a stray thunderstorm this afternoon. I am not expecting these to be widespread. However, thanks to the heat and humidity today coupled with a slight Bay breeze that will develop this evening, we may see a typical summertime thunderstorm fire up. I would just stay weather aware between 4-9pm. But again, most of us will stay dry today.
The Department of the Environment has issued a Code ORANGE Air Quality Alert Thursday for
the Baltimore City Metro, Washington, D.C. Metro, Northern Virginia, and the Annapolis region.
A Code Orange Air Quality Alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors. Below is a chart that describes air quality levels.
