Tuesday’s Forecast: Turning Hot and Humid

Brought to you by Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty

After a rather pleasant Memorial Day Weekend in the weather department, we will see temperatures really begin to rise today! Many spots are likely to make it into the lower to middle 90s this afternoon. This is thanks to a Bermuda high sitting just off the coast, which is pumping in the warmer air.

We are already off to a warm start this morning with temperatures in the 70s and dewpoints in the 60s. We will see temperatures take off this morning, likely nearing 90° by lunchtime. Heat Indices this afternoon will peak up in the upper 90s thanks to increased humidity. Temperatures will not be quick to cool off this evening, either; staying in the 80s.

A weak wave of atmospheric energy will pass overhead this evening. This, in combination with today’s heat and humidity, may lead to a few showers and low-end storms developing after sunset. Our Futurecast model shows this potential quite well. This isn’t likely to be anything major, or severe. However, a few rain drops and even a rumble or two of thunder cannot be ruled out tonight.

Thanks to the heat and humidity today, air pollutants will become even more impactful, especially in urban areas. the Maryland Department of the Environment has issued a Code ORANGE Air Quality Alert for today for the Metro Baltimore region, including Anne Arundel County.

A Code Orange Air Quality Alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases, and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.
