The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for much of the Mid-Atlantic, including:

  • Anne Arundel (MD)
  • Prince George’s (MD)

This watch is in effect until 10PM Monday. Primary threats this evening are:

  • Scattered damaging wind gusts up to 70mph are likely
  • A tornado or two is possible

SUMMARY: Thunderstorms will intensify this afternoon along a corridor from northern Virginia into southeast New York. The stronger cells will pose a risk of locally damaging wind gusts. This watch includes northern areas where the severe weather risk is the highest. However, most areas will have the threat of storm activity through the afternoon and evening.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Remember, a Severe Thunderstorm WATCH just means that conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. People in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
