Tuesday’s Forecast: Cooler with Passing Showers

Brought to you by Chesapeake’s Bounty

7 out of the 8 days have featured highs above 90* with oppressive humidity. Thankfully, this most recent stretch of hot weather has come to an end. Much cooler temperatures are on tap for today! Highs will likely only make it into the lower 80s, which is very welcomed news!

William Richmond Inc. Radar 24-hour estimated rainfall totals

The storms that come through yesterday were quite impactful! Some communities in our southernmost zones saw nonstop rounds of heavy rain and storms that dropped between 2-5″+ of rain prompted flood warnings! Tens of thousands were also left without power in their wake. Thankfully, most are recovering this morning.

This morning we are off to a humid start across the region. Temperatures will likely not budge much as cloud cover begins to move in later this morning. Then, we will see scattered showers begin to move in around lunchtime. These hit-and-miss showers will continue throughout the afternoon and evening.

Hi-Resolution Futurecast simulated radar

Our Futurecast seems to be doing a good job at depicting today’s rain chance. Today definitely doesn’t seem like an all-day wash out, but intermittent and scattered showers will be possible throughout the afternoon. There may be a couple of pockets of heavier rain, but any severe storm risk will be kept to our south.

Weather Prediction Center rainfall forecast through 2AM Wednesday

We’re not likely talking about a whole lot of additional rain today. The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) rainfall forecast today suggests that most spots should see less than half an inch of rain. The highest amounts will likely be found the further south you head. We should avoid flooding issues today!

If you have outdoor plans this afternoon and evening, I would plan on scattered showers moving through and bringing some impacts. While it may not rain everywhere all day, I would plan on moving outdoor activities inside to avoid any impacts. I would also keep the umbrella handy!
