As the storm’s snow and ice fade into the background, a new hazard takes center stage: extreme cold and dangerous wind chills.

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 PM this evening through 11 AM Tuesday as an arctic air mass tightens its grip on the region. Northwest winds will drive wind chills down to 5–8° below zero, making it feel dangerously cold overnight and into the Tuesday morning commute.

These conditions can lead to hypothermia or frostbite if proper precautions are not taken, especially with prolonged exposure. Dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit time outdoors when possible. Be sure to bring pets inside and check on outdoor animals, ensuring they have warm shelter and unfrozen water.

Everyone is at risk from the dangers of extreme cold, but these groups are more vulnerable than most. Age and certain conditions make the body less able to regulate temperature.

Bottom Line

This will be the coldest night of the stretch, with wind chills dipping well below zero by late evening and lasting through Tuesday morning. Take this advisory seriously—limit outdoor exposure, dress for extreme cold, and check on pets, neighbors, and anyone vulnerable to the cold.
