Already Looking Ahead: Winter Storm This Weekend?

Brought to you by Bill Oosterink, Realtor

We just wrapped up a winter storm this past weekend, and already attention is turning to another potential winter storm next weekend. Like the last system, this one is drawing a lot of hype 5–6 days out, and I want to caution everyone again against thinking anything is locked in — especially talk of a guaranteed East Coast snowstorm.

What is worth watching is the overall pattern, which is supportive of some kind of winter storm. A fresh injection of cold air looks likely on Saturday as the jet stream dips well to the south, creating a favorable setup for a storm to develop along the base of that dip and move northward.

The big question is, how close to the coast does that storm track? Models have been very inconsistent, showing everything from a large-scale East Coast snowstorm on one run to a miss well offshore on the next.

A storm developing is likely, but meaningful impacts are not guaranteed. At this point, I’d strongly steer away from hypesters claiming this is “locked” — it isn’t. We’ll refine this as the pattern comes into better focus later this week. This is something I will be monitoring throughout the week and providing updates!
