NEW: Extreme Heat Warning Issued for the 4th of July

Dangerously hot conditions are expected each afternoon across portions of DC, central, north central, northeast, northern, and southern Maryland, and central, northern, and northwest Virginia. Heat index values will reach 110 to 113. First warning until 8 PM EDT this evening. Then 10 AM to 8 PM EDT Friday and Saturday. Heat illness risk rises fast.

An Extreme Heat Warning is issued when extremely dangerous heat conditions are expected or occurring. Avoid outdoor activities, especially during the heat of the day. If you must be outside, be sure to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade. Stay indoors in an air-conditioned space as much as possible, including overnight. Check on family and neighbors.
