The National Weather Service has issued a HEAT ADVISORY that will be in effect from 11AM until 8PM on Thursday for parts of our region. Areas from I-95 to the Chesapeake Bay, including all of Southern Maryland, are likely to see the highest impacts from tomorrow’s heat.
High temperatures and high humidity will cause dangerous heat index numbers. Coastal locations are likely to see heat indices over 105° are expected while actual air temperatures are likely to get into the middle to upper 90s by the afternoon.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
