We have seen our winter storm bring heavy snow with some sleet this morning. Many have recorded between 5-8″ as we see things quiet down for this afternoon. However, we’re not done! Another round of snow and wind will lead to lingering impacts for your Tuesday.
Let’s start with the easiest thing for me to state… it is quite likely that we see widespread school closures on Tuesday. It will take time to clean up the roads, especially in rural areas. The incoming cold and wind will not help matters. Delays may exist for far northern areas, where less snow was seen.
An additional round of snow is likely this evening as a secondary area of low-pressure swings through. This low pressure will bring a period of light snow to much of the Mid-Atlantic for a few hours tonight. An additional 1-3″ of snow looks possible before it pulls away by midnight.
Behind this system, winds will pick from the northwest. Much of the Mid-Atlantic could see wind gusts up to 20-35mph overnight. This will likely cause blowing and drifting of the snow. This may also cause some isolated power outages.
These winds will also bring frigid temperatures. Lows across the region are likely to bottom out in the teens! Temperatures will not recover much tomorrow, either. Highs on Tuesday will stay in the 20s for many areas.
All in all, expect high impacts to remain through Tuesday as the region begins to clean up! School closures are likely, and the end result snow totals will likely be 6-10″!
