Monday’s Forecast: Seasonable Today, Brief Wintry Risk Returns Tuesday AM

Brought to you by Chesapeake Orthodontics

A quieter, seasonably chilly day is settling in across the Mid-Atlantic today as high pressure briefly takes control. That calm won’t last long, however, as attention quickly turns to a warm front lifting north late tonight into Tuesday, bringing a chance for light precipitation and a brief wintry mix in colder areas.

High pressure remains in control today, delivering a seasonably chilly December day across the region. Expect a mix of clouds and filtered sunshine with temperatures topping out mainly in the upper 30s to mid-40s. Winds will remain light, helping it feel calmer compared to recent days, though the cool air mass will keep it brisk throughout the afternoon. Overall, today looks quiet and dry — a brief pause before the next system arrives.

Changes arrive late tonight into early Tuesday as a fast-moving clipper system pushes a warm front northward through the Mid-Atlantic. As this warm front lifts, a band of light precipitation may develop, with areas north and west of Baltimore, cold enough initially for a brief mix of snow or sleet early Tuesday morning. Any wintry precipitation should be light and short-lived, as warmer air quickly surges north, turning most areas over to rain showers. While impacts appear limited, a narrow window exists for slick spots during the early morning commute if precipitation coverage increases.
