Sunday’s Forecast: Cold with Snow Showers

Brought to you by Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty

After topping out in the 60s yesterday, we saw a cold front move through overnight, ushering in a fresh injection of cold air. Our temps have been dropping into the 30s, as snow began to fall northwest of DC. Many spots northwest of DC saw an inch or two overnight. Even La Plata recorded an inch of snow last night; granted, I’m not sure how viable that report is. Shown below is a six-hour loop of radar.

We will see temperatures hang out in the middle 30s for much of today. In addition to the cold, we will also have gusty northwest winds to contend with at times, which could gust upwards of 20-30mph at times. We will also see snow showers move through as we near lunchtime.

Our Chesapeake’s Bounty Futurecast displayed below, does a pretty good job at depicting today’s snow potential. Futurecast shows that we will see snow showers gradually work southeastward throughout the day. While bursts of moderate snow are possible, this should generally be light, and spotty in coverage.

Snow showers will look to stick around with us through the afternoon and evening hours, before clearing up late this evening. However, we may see a couple of rouge snow showers work through overnight, as well. Cooling temperatures overnight tonight could lead to slick spots on area roads.

Futurecast continues to show limited accumulation across our region. Generally, we are expecting less than an inch of additional accumulation for most spots. Any accumulation should be limited to grassy and colder surfaces. Roads should be fine this evening, be again, some slick spots are possible.

As we have been saying throughout much of this week, this event will not be a big deal for our area. Most spots should end up with less than an inch of accumulation, with only a couple of communities seeing more than that. Conditions should be alright today before we turn even colder for Monday.
