Thursday’s Forecast: Tropical Storm Conditions Likely This Evening

Brought to you by Dugan, McKissick and Longmore, LLC.

Overnight we saw Calvert (MD), St. Mary’s (MD), and Westmoreland (VA) Counties upgraded to a Tropical Storm Warning. It is now looking likely that we see tropical storm conditions, being defined as winds at or above 39mph, move into southern portions of our region this evening. I will have an updated full outlook out later this morning on Elsa and her impacts locally. Check back with JB Weather for that.

We are off to a warm and muggy start this morning, and we will see the cloud cover increase throughout the morning. We will begin to introduce rain chances into our forecast between lunchtime and 2PM as Elsa’s outer bands move northward. We may see some embedded thunderstorms by the PM Rush. Heavy rain will persist into the evening.

With heavy rain looking likely across our region this evening into tonight, we do have a Flash Flood Watch in effect for all of our local counties. This Flash Flood Watch will go into effect at 5PM this evening and will stay in effect until 8AM Friday. Flooding will be a concern as heavy rain moves in, especially in Southern Calvert and southern St. Mary’s Counties. 2-5″ of rain will be possible there.

Flash Flood Watch in effect from 5PM Thu. – 8AM Fri. for the counties in green.

It will be important to stay with JB Weather for the latest information on Elsa and her important impacts here in Southern Maryland. You can always access my forecasts and updates here on the website, on Facebook, on Twitter, and on YouTube. JB Weather is Southern Maryland’s Weather Leader, and I am working around the clock to keep you ahead of the storm!
