The new year is starting with a fresh injection of cold air as a strong cold front pushed through overnight. As we kick off the new year, attention turns to a weak southern system that may brush parts of the Mid-Atlantic this weekend.

A weak storm system will pass to our south Saturday evening. Something to watch is that this may track just far enough north to bring a period of light snow to southern Maryland and the Northern Neck. At this time, this does not look like a significant event, with limited accumulation expected due to the southern track and weaker system strength.
That said, we’ll need to keep an eye on any northward shifts, which could increase snow chances and allow for minor accumulations closer to home. As longtime Mid-Atlantic residents know, southern sliders are always worth watching.
