Excessive Heat Likely Late This Week

Brought to you by Club Pilates

The dog days of summer are in full swing as the heat and humidity take hold on our region. An area of high pressure, referred to as a Bermuda High (because of it’s proximity to Bermuda), is centered off the southeast US coastline. This Bermuda High is helping to pump up warm and humid air from the south. The effects of this setup will be very evident by late this week as the high heat and humidity ramp up.

We will notice the heat really ramp up tomorrow. Highs across the region are likely to get up into the middle to upper 90s areawide. Coastal areas will likely be a few degrees cooler, but still plenty warm! On the second graphic in the slideshow, you can see that a Heat ADVISORY has been issued for all of the orange-colored areas, which includes all of Southern MD, for tomorrow. Heat Indices across our area will look to get near 105° by tomorrow afternoon. Hydration & staying cool will be key!

The heat will look to intensify on Thursday. Highs will likely get into the upper 90s, and near the century mark. The increased humidity coming northward will make it feel much hotter. Already, an Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for our entire region for Thursday. You can see this on the second graphic. Heat Indices will likely become dangerous, nearing 110° in the afternoon.

With heat indices looking to get between 105-110° it will be important to take it easy, stay cool, and hydrate over the next few days.
