Today marks the start of what could become our most significant heat wave since 2012, with dangerous heat and humidity settling across the Mid-Atlantic through at least the Independence Day weekend. A Heat Advisory is in effect for much of the region this afternoon as temperatures soar into the upper 90s to around 100°. Combined with tropical humidity, it will feel like 100° to 110° for many communities.
Most of the region will experience max heat indices between 103°-108°. Eastern Pennsylvania & New Jersey will see values of 105°-110°. Extreme Heat Warnings have already been issued across parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. While humidity there will actually be a bit lower than farther south, actual air temperatures are expected to climb even higher, pushing heat index values into warning criteria.

☀️ High temperatures near 100° this afternoon.
🥵 Heat index values over 105° in many locations.
🌙 Little relief tonight, with lows only falling into the 70s, and even the lower 80s in urban areas.
📈 The heat continues to intensify Thursday and Friday, when many locations could experience the hottest temperatures of the week.
Heat Safety
💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
🏠 Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned buildings.
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle—even for a few minutes.
👵 Check on elderly neighbors, friends, and family members.
