The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a TORNADO WATCH for Calvert and St. Mary’s Counties, as well as the Delmarva and Eastern VA. This watch is in effect until 11PM Thursday.

Primary threats this evening are:

  • A few tornadoes possible
  • Isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

SUMMARY: A moist air mass and strong low-level winds associated with Elsa will support the possibility of supercells capable of brief tornadoes this afternoon and evening as Elsa continues north-northeastward.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Remember, a Tornado WATCH just means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms to develop, nothing is occurring right now.  People in the watch area should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings if severe weather or tornadoes are imminent.
