Heat index values around 105 are expected from 11 AM this morning to 7 PM EDT this evening across Washington DC, and portions of central, northern, and southern Maryland, and central and northern Virginia. Hot, humid conditions can cause heat illnesses. Limit time outdoors, take breaks in air conditioning, and drink plenty of water.

A Heat Advisory has been issued for areas along and southeast of I-95 for Saturday. This includes Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George’s, and St. Mary’s Counties. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! In cases of heat stroke, call 9 1 1.
